It wasn’t until two weeks ago, mice stirred little interest to me, besides the fact that they cause lots of damage and can spread diseases like salmonella and perpetuate asthma. This was before I bought an apartment which was mice infested.
After close investigations I soon found they had bored holes in the walls and were using the holes to breed. This is common with the house mouse and I thought the problem was simple and had a pest control company come in and exterminate them but this was not the end of the story.
After the extermination, a queer smell persisted in the apartment and after a week or so I decided to Google for remedies to get rid of the smell that lingered in and around the exterior of the apartment. I expected to receive a simple solution to the problem but instead I come across a bounty of information that helped educate me on mice more then I could have imagined.
“I expected to receive a simple solution to the problem but instead I come across a bounty of information that helped educate me on mice more then I could have imagined.”
I found out the smell was being caused by the house mouse urine and it didn’t stop there. The mouse urine carried some proteins that are too stubborn to get rid of using normal house washing techniques and could pose major health complications to people exposed to it over long periods.
Reports and studies on the house mouse infestations show above 80% of Australian homes have mumps caused by the infestation spread throughout most of the walls. This is because house walls are the mouse high ways and are passed on through mouse generations, leading to high amounts of the mouse urine protein accumulating.
Besides mumps there are loads of other problems linked to the urine such as rashes and Asthma. Research shows that the protein in the mouse urine is the biggest trigger of asthma attacks. This information was way more then I had expected when searching for the remedy to removing the smell from my home. So I guess sometimes procrastinating on the net can be useful when you come across vital info like this. Irrelevant it may seem since you just never know when you will be coming across a volt of information like the dangers of mice urine, haha!
This makes it vital to rethink the house mouse living in your wall since he may seem harmless but he could be the trigger to a major health complication which you may never even suspect him for.
