Welcome to the first in a series of design and architecture blog posts here at House Washing Experts!

You already know that we’re in the business of what some may call “house detailing” or what a 7-year old girl one day out on a job so eloquently put it, “magic!” Either way, its not a secret that we have a massive appreciation of houses. Besides the obvious benefits of maintaining the value of your home, but ideally, imagine if your neighbours, and their neighbours’ neighbour invested into the cleanliness of their homes, and what do you get? A beautiful Australia!

So on that note, we’ve decided to start collating all the beautiful houses we’ve come across on the Internet through architecture blogs and design magazines. Dreaming or aspiring about editorial-quality houses has a very inspiring effect. It certainly keeps us going and we’re more than sure that many of our followers who appreciate beautiful exteriors would appreciate it too. So here’s our first post and there will be plenty more to come!

“we’ve decided to start collating all the beautiful houses we’ve come across on the Internet through architecture blogs and design magazines”

This superb house in Johannesburg combines the obvious elements of rock, steel and wood in order to achieve a striking balance of indoor and outdoor living. It was designed by Nico van der Meulen Architects and their instructions were to create an innovative home that incorporates an ecologically balanced design.

The front, (which front?). Actually we’ll talk about this more in a later post, but I’m really impressed with how modern architects have defined what we consider the “front of the home”. Anyway, the front strategically displays rusted steel clad walls that are inconspicuously mounted on rails that allow them to slide back and forth. Behind this rustic slider lies the garage.

The exterior frames however, is what we’re pretty impressed with. We’ve seen lots of modern homes adopt this “framing look” and most of the times are a complete failure since they’re using them for no apparent reason. You know, frames just for the sake of having giant frames? But you can see here, that these big white frames outside do an incredible job at marking out the entertainment and pool spaces. Yep, we’re definitely impressed. What do you think?
