Welcome to the first in a series of design and architecture blog posts here at House Washing Experts!
Outdoor architecture is all about creating functional spaces that feel connected to nature. In modern Australian homes, backyard areas are extensions of the indoor living environment. You already know that we’re in the business of what some may call “house detailing” or what a 7-year old girl one day out on a job so eloquently put it, “magic!” Either way, its not a secret that we have a massive appreciation of houses.
Besides the obvious benefits of maintaining the value of your home, but ideally, imagine if your neighbours, and their neighbours’ neighbour invested into the cleanliness of their homes, and what do you get? A beautiful Australia!
So on that note, we’ve decided to start collating all the beautiful houses we’ve come across on the Internet through architecture blogs and design magazines. Dreaming or aspiring about editorial-quality houses has a very inspiring effect. It certainly keeps us going and we’re more than sure that many of our followers who appreciate beautiful exteriors would appreciate it too. So here’s our first post and there will be plenty more to come!
“we’ve decided to start collating all the beautiful houses we’ve come across on the Internet through architecture blogs and design magazines”
This superb house in Johannesburg combines the obvious elements of rock, steel and wood in order to achieve a striking balance of indoor and outdoor living. It was designed by Nico van der Meulen Architects and their instructions were to create an innovative home that incorporates an ecologically balanced design.
The front, (which front?). Actually we’ll talk about this more in a later post, but I’m really impressed with how modern architects have defined what we consider the “front of the home”. Anyway, the front strategically displays rusted steel clad walls that are inconspicuously mounted on rails that allow them to slide back and forth. Behind this rustic slider lies the garage.
The exterior frames however, is what we’re pretty impressed with. We’ve seen lots of modern homes adopt this “framing look” and most of the times are a complete failure since they’re using them for no apparent reason. You know, frames just for the sake of having giant frames? But you can see here, that these big white frames outside do an incredible job at marking out the entertainment and pool spaces. Yep, we’re definitely impressed. What do you think?
The Charm of Floating Islands in Outdoor Architecture
Floating islands transform a standard pool into a sophisticated retreat. They can serve as a lounge area, dining spot, or even a decorative garden platform. The versatility of these islands makes them an attractive addition for homeowners who want to enhance their outdoor living experience.
In outdoor architecture, floating islands often feature natural materials like wood or stone, complemented by furniture, plants, or shade structures. This integration creates a harmonious blend between the pool, backyard, and home, reflecting a thoughtful and intentional design approach.
For Australian homes, where outdoor living is a central lifestyle element, floating islands offer both beauty and practicality. They provide shaded spaces, elevated platforms for sunbathing, and even areas for entertaining guests, all within the pool itself.
Enhancing Outdoor Living Spaces
Outdoor architecture is all about creating functional spaces that feel connected to nature. In modern Australian homes, backyard areas are extensions of the indoor living environment. Pools, decks, terraces, and gardens are designed to promote relaxation and social interaction.
Floating islands enhance this concept by introducing an additional dimension to pool design. Whether used for casual lounging, small gatherings, or as a decorative element, these islands elevate the entire outdoor experience. To keep these spaces looking their best, regular outdoor washing is essential. Dirt, algae, and debris can accumulate quickly, diminishing the beauty of even the most luxurious setups.
Seasonal Maintenance Tips
Australian climates can vary greatly depending on the region, and seasonal care is important for preserving floating islands and pool areas. During hot, dry periods, surfaces can fade and dust may accumulate rapidly. In wetter months, algae, moss, and mildew may develop.
Professional outdoor washing is especially important during seasonal transitions, as it removes buildup that can damage surfaces over time. Routine cleaning schedules prevent staining, protect materials, and keep your Australian home looking immaculate throughout the year.
Maintaining their beauty and functionality requires regular care. Professional outdoor washing by experts such as House Washing Experts ensures that pool areas, decks, and floating islands remain clean, safe, and visually stunning. By combining thoughtful design with professional maintenance, homeowners can enjoy the full benefits of their outdoor spaces while preserving the longevity and appeal of their property.
Whether it’s removing algae, dirt, or seasonal debris, a clean and well-maintained floating island enhances both the lifestyle and aesthetic value of your Australian home, turning your backyard into a true sanctuary.
